Food Drive 2022

As we are all aware, money is going to be very tight for many this winter, and the Haslington Support Group want to ensure that the Haslington Parish Community are fed and are as warm as possible through this cold period. We are setting up baskets and boxes throughout the Parish for people to donate any of the following items, which will be used to make a food hamper ready to be donated to anyone we hear of who is needing that help, irrespective of their age. We will accept packets, tins and jars, but NO chilled, frozen or fresh foods and please don’t forget to check the use before dates. We don’t want to have to throw foods that you and I may still eat past the sell-by date but other people would be very wary of using. Something to bear in mind, high nutritional food values, please and those which won’t need a lot of cooking because of the cost of fuels to use.

We would like to hear from anyone who is in need; remember that Pride doesn’t fill an empty stomach or keep you warm. If Haslington Support Group can help you, or perhaps a neighbour who is embarrassed to ask for that help, please, contact us. We started up in 2019 to help residents through the lockdowns, and we are still here to help, so please, ask if you are struggling.

Foods to donate:

Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Malted Milk, Drinking Chocolate, Oxo’s, Bovril, Dried Milk Powder, Long Life milk, Long Life juices, squash.

Cup Soups, Mug Shots, Naked Chow Mein, Naked Curry, rice dishes, pasta meals, Itsu Rice noodles, cake in a mug, and Packs of ready-cooked, flavoured rice. Instant vegetables, pasta, plain dried rice etc

Tins: Soups, Stews, Spaghetti Bolognaise, Vegetables, Casseroles, Fish, ham, corned beef, Spam, chopped ham and pork, chicken, fruits, rice puddings, semolina, complete meals in a tin, pies, minced beef, stewed steak etc

Jars: Peanut Butter, Jams, Lemon Curd, Marmalade, Fish pastes meat pastes, Marmite, Bovril, Sandwich Spread, sauces, eg, Bolognaise, Chinese, Indian, Stews and Casseroles.
